It was a bright and crisp Monday morning at Maplewood School, where the sweet aroma of freshly baked cakes wafted through the corridors. In Mrs. Johnson's classroom, the students were buzzing with excitement. Today was the day of the Christmas Sweet Fair, an event where every student brought in their favourite sweets to share.
Among
the eager crowd was a group of four friends:
Students were whispering
and teachers were looking concerned. “What's going on?” Mia
asked as they walked towards the canteen. “I
heard sweets went missing!” said a
classmate named Emily. “A whole load of it!”
“What? How could that happen?” Jake
exclaimed; his eyes wide with disbelief.
“Everyone’s sweets were here
before lunch. Who could
do such a thing?" However,
when we went to set up, some of it was
gone!” Emily replied, glancing over her
shoulder.
They set up their base in the
bedroom, where pillows were
strewn about and a table was covered with
sweet wrappers, notebooks and coloured
pencils. “First things first, we need a
plan,” Sam said, flipping through his
notebook. “We should list out everything we
know about the Sweet disappearances.” “Good
idea! Let’s make a giant poster!” Lily
suggested, reaching for the
pens.
She spoke to Emily, who
mentioned seeing a mysterious figure lurking
near the teachers’ lounge just before the
sweets disappeared. “I swear, it was a
shadow! I couldn’t see who it was, but it
looked suspicious!” Emily said, her voice
filled with drama. Meanwhile, Jake
interviewed Tom, who was known for his sweet
collection. “I heard that Mark has been
acting weird lately. He was
bragging about how much sweets he had, and then
suddenly, it all went missing!”
“Okay, what
do we have?” Sam asked, ready to piece together
the puzzle. Mia shared Emily’s sighting. “A
shadow by the teachers’ lounge! We should check
that out.” “And Mark might know something,” Jake
added. “He was acting suspiciously.” “Let’s come
up with a plan to investigate those leads
tomorrow during break,” Lily suggested.
They tiptoed around the
corner, peeking through the glass window.
Inside, they spotted teachers chatting, but
there was no sign of any suspicious shadows.
“Maybe we should look around the outside,” Jake
suggested. They crept around the building, and
to their surprise, they found a trail of sweet
wrappers leading away from the lounge. “Look!
This could be a clue!” Mia exclaimed.
“The wrappers lead away from the
teachers’ lounge, so maybe someone was taking
sweets from there!” “What if we set up a
stakeout?” Jake suggested, his eyes glinting
with mischief. “We could hide and watch to see
who’s taking the sweets!” “Great idea! We could
use the old tree by the playground as our hiding
spot,” Mia said.
I thought it
would be fun!” Mark confessed, looking guilty.
“But it’s not fun if you’re taking from others,”
Sam said gently. “You could have just asked to
share.” “I know, I’m sorry! I didn’t think it
would be such a big deal,” Mark admitted, his
face turning red. They
had mixed feelings about what to do. They didn’t
want to get Mark in trouble, but they knew they
needed to be honest.
Jake cracked a joke about being the
best Sweet
Detectives in the school
and they
all laughed. They spent the afternoon playing
games and enjoying the
sweets.
As the sun began to set, Mia looked around at
her friends, their faces lit with joy. “This was
the best Sweet Fair ever, we solved the
mystery together a
